Michael,
what do you mean by "I tried" - how did you try to post the message?
A mailing list is used here because it allows maximum working efficency,
far over any web based service.
You are of course kidding, I couldn't post to any TDF lists or addresses for
about three days because the list decided to blacklist my ISP and they all got
bounced as spam and that during a critical discussion
People receiving several hundreds (or thousands) of messages daily can
best handle them with mailing lists: you subscribe, create
folders/filters and can browse them extremely fast as they are on your
own computer and you can use your own mail client software. Most mail
clients implement elaborated techniques to support quick work, as
threaded view, hiding/unhiding messages or threads, filtered views,
watching threads, replying to the list or to the sender only, etc.
So maybe you just do not know how to make maximum benefit from the
lists?
I use mail lists for one reason only, I'm on dialup and it's easier to work
offline, otherwise everything that is good about working in the cloud, works
with forums. Mail lists are a pain in the bupkiss, they scare new users,
they're nonintuitive to subscribe too and get rid of, they're difficult to
moderate, they intrude on your connection in the worst possible way by tying
it up until everything is down loaded, the security of your mail is up to the
stability of your mail client. And yes I've lost important mail due to mail
client upgrade.
If I had a broadband connection I wouldn't go near maillists if I could get
away with it, unfortunately in the OOo project and it seems like this one,
decisions are only made on the lists and people who stick to the forums are
ignored by those making the decisions.
I know how to use mail lists, I'm forced to, Maybe you don't know how to make
the most of forums.
