We should ask them. Dev and QA are the ones that know what state the 
code is in. Marketing are the ones that know that version number to use 
publicly. So somehow it is an odd discussion here. But I don't know the 
history and don't know what the project means by the version numbers. I 
just know what I expect as an end user.

In cane you have the 'one cures all' solution for our download page,
feel welcome to share :-)
No one have. But I think the suggestion I posted is as good as the other 
mockups, which are much better than the current, and had the added 
benefit of being usable now (listing of source packages is missing, and 
translations and dynamic types should added). I thought about putting 
version selection in the right column under "Handy resources", but 
thought it was to noisy.
