Hi Pierre,
thanks for your comments. Answers inline.
When I Launch LO, I can see pictures of my last documents. Bellow the
picture, there is the name of my doc (not exactly is name, but the
name of the file without extension file)
If my mouse pointer is on the picture, a little rectangle will appear
with the full name (path and name) of the document
OK
If I go to the template manager, bellow the picture, it's the real
name of the template. Not the name of the file, but the title of the
template. If you want to change this title, you must open the
template, and then go to :
File -> Properties/Description and the fill the Title as you wish.
(I think there is a problem if two templates have the same Title)
If my mouse pointer is over the picture then, in the little
rectangle, I have the same information, the Title. There is no
information about the file name, and its location.
Don't you think that theses behaviors should be the same ?
Templates are different from recent files: They are all stored in the
same folder, which is usually inaccessible to the user. So it doesn't
make sense to expose the location to the user.
About the tooltip: We should probably show the filename in the
tooltip, not the title.
No, this is wrong. We can add folders for template, and we have to do
this if we want to work with ours own templates. that's my case, and
surely, I'm not the only one.
But this can be confusing. Many peoples don't know where the title come
from, and don't know of to change it. So they change the file name and
don't understand why the title isn't changed
Working on template is great, Why not investigate this bug while of
GSoC ?
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50699 (Template
Changer: Allow ability to change a document's associated template)
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89286 (Create
possibility to replace template attached (where it is based upon) to
a Writer document)
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=83569 (Style
inherit from impress template broke document styles)
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60589 ([Template
manager]: Can not copy styles between different files and templates)
We investigated all of these. And we fixed a whole bunch of open bugs
while on it. But these are really hard ones, some may even be WONTFIX
(50699 and 89286) because that issue is solved with document themes,
not with templates.
Great !
Pierre

Samuel
