Hi

One of the signs that I don't find very useful in LO is the windows flouting around the screen 
(i.e. styles...)

I don't use side panels for that, like IBM Lotus Symphony?

For that it could be useful to have new icons, for showing and hiding this panels.

what problem does this solve?
Sure, we then have a slightly less crowded status bar, but on the other hand LibO's scrollbar will 
be shorter and less useful (cf.
horizontal scrollbar in Calc).
