 Hi,

Few days ago, there was a discussion about the "style" name :
http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/www/design/msg01436.html

As I've been teaching the basic of OpenOffice 2 or 3 years ago, I can
confirm that the idea of "style sheet" is not obvious. But it seems to
me that the name "style sheet" doesn't help...

I have a suggestion :
what if we completely replace the name "style" (used for style sheet)
with "template" ?

"style" would be used only for "bold", "italic", "underline"...

LibreOffice already uses the name "Template" for documents.
It would be "document template".

For writer :
"page style" --> "page template",
"frame style" --> "frame template",
"paragraph style" --> "paragraph template",
"caracter style" --> "caracter template",
"list style" --> "list template",
...

For Impress :
"Master Slide" --> "Slide template"
"presentation Styles" --> "slide elements template" ????

For Calc :
"page style" --> "Page template"
"cell style" --> "Cell template"

For Draw:
"Graphic style" --> "Shape template"
...

What do you think ?
Might it help some users ?

Michel

Hi Michel

Should this suggestion not be put in the Discussion mail list? It doesn't
seem, to me, to have anything to do with design. It is more of a discussion
item.

Cheers

Marc

Hi.
I think this is the correct list if design is functional design as well as
visual design. I think for English speakers style is ok, but I can see the
reasoning to change when the understanding is not clear in non English
areas. I don't think template is the correct word.
Style is applied to many areas, style of building (Tudor, Art Deco), style
of clothes, style of cooking, style of art, etc. Is it the word that is
difficult to understand or the fact that you can apply a style. Would it be
better to change the word for different localisations, may be Definitions,
i.e. Page Definition or Formats, Paragraph Format.
