I did and I've created a great looking dropdown menu plus breadcrumb
concept. But, practically it will fail for our kind of site content -
Klaus-Jürgen is right when he says that people will explore the content.
Dropdown make sense if something is well ordered in advance, or if you
use it rather seldom.

For example, the KDE website does have such a drop-down menu (great
visual appeal, nice behavior), but mostly you simply "jump-off" to other
pages having a more direct interaction concept (side menus, etc.).

So, although I like the idea of having such a menu, we might practically
cause issues for those people visiting the site. As always, people do
not read, they scan pages ... (especially in our case) ... this has to
be reflected by our site design.
