I was about to say that is very handy --- but then I noticed that it does
not
work for me - and Im on Kubuntu 25.04 Version: 25.8.4.2 (X86_64) /
LibreOffice.
I did try CTRL and the large + button on the numeric pad of my keyboard
but that
only inserts cells.

On my computer it's Ctrl+↵ (Ctrl+Enter), but I might have defined that
shortcut myself at some point, I don't remember.
But you can assign what ever keyboard shortcut you want to basically
whatever you want in LibreOffice. Have a look at Tools → Customize … →
Keyboard:
First select the keyboard shortcut in ”Shortcut keys”.
Then select Insert in the Category list.
Finally select Insert Current Date in the Function list and click Assign.
You can also save your settings, so you can easily have the same settings
on all your computers.

Kind regards

There's a predefined shortcut (CTRL+; on linux... it's probably Command+;

You can add a different keystroke if you want in

I have task that involves logging activities into a 2 column
table: date, activity. Is there any way that I can automagically
put the current date into column 1 when I open the row by tabbing
the last row of the table?

I assume you are using Calc and that you mean that you want the current
date as a fixed date (not =DATE()). In that case, I actually do a
similar
thing pretty often.
My method is to use a Sheet Event (right click a sheet tab, and there
it
is) to assign a macro to an event for that sheet only. The macro then
detects which cell was changed and fills the cell on the same row in
the
Date column with the current date, so when using the sheet, you just
enter
values in your other column, and after you done that, the current date
appears in the corresponding date cell.
If you don't know how to write the actual macro, maybe I (or someone
else)
can help.

Thanks for your time
