I have task that involves logging activities into a 2 column table: date, activity.  Is there any way that I can automagically put the current date into column 1 when I open the row by tabbing the last row of the table?

you didn't specify the working context. What is a "table": a Calc grid or a Writer table?

If it is a Calc spreadsheet, just type Ctrl + ; to insert the current date.

Season's greetings,
