Hi :)
Timing is always tricky and always "could be better" but worrying
about that just means nothing gets done. I think the best answer to
that is to have another one. Hopefully the bad-timings might
eventually cancel out. Perhaps make it a regular event? Say 1/year? or
1/6months? or always such that the beta release appears halfway
through or something?

well each team needs to figure it out with the others, so we should just let people get it right :-)

I meant it would be great for different teams to promote themselves by
posting to the Users List maybe 1/month. Perhaps the same one each
time or perhaps letting the Users know of some recent victory. It
might also be good to make a general announcement posted to the Users
List to let them know of all the teams but i think such a general
announcement might just be too confusing for people.

I agree, that would be a good idea. Wether we put up a wiki page or just post something and perhaps take questions would help us gather new volunteers in the mid term. Let's try to implement that around September / October, and even more importantly, let's see how it can be replicated for native-language communities who might be interested in getting more volunteers and sending more volunteers to the -English speaking- teams of the community.

Best,

Charles.

Tom :)

Hi :)
I think the QA team's recent competition was good for building up
the
community spirit.

Well the contest could have had a much better timing and more
volunteers (because of the timing issue).

People on the User List seem to quite like it when they get
invited
to join in other lists or other teams.

Indeed they should not hesitate to join but only if they feel they
can
contribute (technically or otherwise).

They don't always join in
straight away because it's a bit intimidating and they seem to
think
they will need coding skills to join in elsewhere. Obviously
posting
too often would be annoying. Perhaps 1/month? more often? less?

You mean posting one time a month on the marketing list or reminding
people on the users list that they could join various teams?

Best,

Charles.

Tom :)

As part of the marketing team, we often get so busy that we
forget
that part of our responsibility is to not only foster growth in
the
use of our product, but, and of large importance, that of
fostering
growth and building community.

As it seems that we are all taking a well-deserved break after
the
release of v.4.1, this particular article has appeared on the
OpenSource.com website. It makes for a good read and is quite
well
written from the point of view of detailing some "tips" on
building community.

I just thought that some of you would want to have a look at
it,
as, IMO, we have strayed a bit away from building community and
this may in fact inspire those of us who contribute and remind
us
to encourage others, who are sitting on the sidelines on our
mailing lists, that there is a place for everyone in our
TDF/LibreOffice communities and that any contribution, small or
large, are most appreciated.

Good catch! And thanks for bringing back an important topic on
the
table: our community is what we do and who we are, and the
primary
mission of the marketing team is to act as an information bus
across
our community - and to as well as from the "outside".

BTW, let me remind everyone that you can comment on the agenda of
our
