I agree too, officially, we should market the "LibreOffice" name
right from the very start and for now we could just market the
"vernacular" name of "LibO" as being what "people have been calling
it in its short form".
I would not market it to external areas, but keep it inside our community.
As well as OOo or l10n it's an acronym - but a very cool one ;-)

little bit of marketing subterfuge by allowing a limited quantity of
some "LibO" shirts to "leak out" though ... this could have some
appeal to the "rebels" in the group. It could also create a little
buzz for the brand.
As you state below, we probably don't need to market LibO at all -
people will pick it up, as it looks quite probable that we keep using it
for our internal communication.
I think that the "LibO" name will follow along on its own. The "cool"
factor will also help it.
