So, to change the way a cross-reference like "as shown in the figure _above_" or "see the table
_below_", it is necessary to make a commit for <aboveWord> and <belowWord> in
https://git.libreoffice.org/core/+/refs/heads/master/i18npool/source/localedata/data/da_DK.xml#377
, is that correctly understood?

yes.

I do not have experience in making commits on the code, only in Weblate. Where do I start?

you can create a change from the gerrit webinterface, as explained
here: https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/Documentation/user-inline-edit.html
convenience link for you to automatically add the file
https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/admin/repos/edit/repo/core/branch/refs/heads/master/file/i18npool/source/localedata/data/da_DK.xml
to a new changeset.

Please don't forget to provide a more useful commit message than the
default "Edit /path/to/file" :-)

If you already have a git checkout of the core repository, and know
hot to use git add and git commit, then using git from commandline
also works, you'll have to setup an ssh key and the gerrit-specific
push URL as described here:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development/gerrit/setup - but I
guess for single-file edits with only two strings changed, the
web-edit method will work just fine.

ciao
Christian
