Does anyone use that

I know that *I* never use it :-)

I'm not either. From what I've been told this is mainly used by some
Oracle devs.

If this is about --enable-dbgutil, I still use it, at times. My code
at least does some extra runtime checks that are too expensive in my
mind for production code - additionally, if you build with internal
stlport, you get their debug mode (which is totally helpful to catch
e.g. invalid iterator usages etc.)

There is discussion every once in a while to remove that mode, and
roll all the code into production use (runtime-configurable, if need
be) - or pour it into unit tests in the first place. But I think
we're not there _yet_.
