There is a plugin for FireFox called Download Helper. It sits silent
and grey on the toolbar until there is downloadable content on the
displayed page. It's worked well for me.
It will also convert format. For example, one of Drew's links shows a
choice of mp4, flv and different resolution formats to be downloaded.
A menu can be displayed that has several options...the only one I've
used converts those originally displayed formats to mp3 (audio only).
