Never heard any bad press for PayPal, but that does not mean there is none.
I just prefer to use it over my debit card, for security sake. It is much
harder for a "business" or person to fake charges to PayPal. Once someone
has my Debit card number, I take the risk that someone in their "business"
could copy it and then try to use it for their own spending.
As for Censorship, well freedom of speech is part of the USA Constitution
but it is "legally" violated all the time here. Business seem to have the
right to demand your social network user account and password as a
condition of employment. We are working on laws to stop that. Then there
is the issue of "if you look like an enemy, you must be one" attitude. If
you dress up in traditional Islamic robes and head gear, then you get
hassled and discriminated a lot. Racial Profiling laws prevent that but it
is difficult to prove and enforce.
There are legal issues about "helping" someone to buy items that may be
banned by come cultures. So if it is banned in one region of the world, it
is much easier to ban it from their service for everyone than try to
determine if they are buying it while online in a region/community that you
are not allowed to do so or is being shipped through that region.
It is much easier to just not allow something to be bought than determine
if the buyer is allowed to buy it in their culture, government region, or
are you old enough, etc., etc..
I do not like this type of censorship of people's right to buy, read,
view, etc., from legally run web sites/businesses, but it is a hazard of
doing business. Either you get people upset with you or you get government
agencies knocking on your doors.
Now if the PayPal people are just censoring purchases by their own
"standards" and not out of some legal requirement, then there is an issue
that may be against some rule of law or rule of ethical business practice
governing their business type.
But, censorship is a fact of life and hard to stop or legally prove to the
courts.

Well, the one thing I like about PayPal is the "insurance factor".
If you
buy something online and it never comes or some fraud is involved, you
can
get your money back through part of their service agreement. So if
someone, say on eBay, states that they do not take PayPal payments, they
are to be avoided.
I do remember that PayPal has/had a credit card service for those
"buyers"
who do not have a PayPal account. That was a good service.
So what TDF is doing is setting up a system that takes various credit
cards directly through the card company's service, or are you
contracting a
payment service company that processes the card "purchases"?
I do like the reoccurring monthly payments. The you can set up a
"donation" cycle, like you do for monthly Internet hosting accounts, so
you
can just set it up and forget about it, allowing the donations to be
"sent"
monthly without any hassle of remembering is you sent in a donation that
month.
Actually, from a marketing standpoint, having a direct credit/debit card
system makes TDF "look" more professional. Almost anyone can setup a
PayPal
payment system, but it takes a true "professional" business to get a
direct
card payment service. Or, at least in my area of the world.
