I think we could do it the democratic way:

Here's my idea:

Put a BIG post in both foruns " VOTE FOR US " and give it 10 days, the one
that has more users votes gets chosen.

No, that won't really help. Plain votes without giving a reason for
the vote has the annotation of fanboyism, i.e. people will not judge
by their own experience, but rather just by what they know already or
what is "in" at the moment.

It is fine to do a final poll after the arguments for and against the
two proposals have been collected, but doesn't really replace giving
actual feedback/the reasons for placing the vote that way. At least I
would prefer knowing the reasons since that would allow us to improve
things.

I personally DO NOT preffer 1 forum and to scroll down to find my language
so my vote goes to JForum ... but that is just me

Thanks for your input.

I wonder how to get feedback from a wider user-base. After all people
did complain loudly in the past that there is no forum, demanded that
we set one up as soon as possible - and when it comes to making a
decision, we fail to reach those users.

It's hard to tell people to use a demo-installation/something where
they cannot expect a real answer and that (because it is a
demo/testing setup), doesn't have the final theming and language
setup... (I'm afraid that people will just vote for phpBB because it
matches the LO theme and not because they like the concept better - if
people prefer phpBB but would like separate forums, this could be done
as well, this after all is the structure that OOo uses)

ciao
Christian
