I'm sorry to keep coming back to this thread, but I continue to have the
mysterious random change in the "minimumwidth" setting. It happened
again tonight.
When I searched the registrymodification.xcu, the entry that was
indicated below was not there.
<item oor:path="/org.openoffice.Office.UI.Sidebar/General"><prop
oor:name="MinimumWidth" oor:op="fuse"><value>false</value></prop></item>
I went into Tools -Options-Advanced-Open Expert Configuration, reset the
minimumwidth value to 'false.' Now the entry is present in
registrymodification.xcu.
As nearly as I can tell, this is what happened:
I opened an old .odt document. It did not have some of the newer styles
I've created, so I opened a new document that used my current default
template and copied the content of the old document into the new document.
The minimumwidth setting for some reason changed to 'true' at this
point. I could no long squeeze the sidebar in the new document to the
width I wanted.
There was no entry for "MinimumWidth" in registrymodification.xcu.
I changed the setting under Tools-Options... to false.
Now the sidebar is working the way I want it to again and the entry
appears in registrymodification.xcu.
So is this a bug such that if I open an old document it somehow changes
the configuration for my newer documents? Or copying the content of the
old document into a new document changes the configuration?
I'm using LO 7.4.6.2/ LibreOffice Community on Ubuntu 20.04.
Thanks.

Sorry. I thought I had included the whole thread.
I had received these instructions for the styles sidebar in LO Writer:
Use Tools -> Options -> Advanced "Open Expert Configuration"
Search for "minimumwidth"
Click the "Edit" button to directly toggle 'MinimumWidth'
boolean value from "true" to "false"
OK out to apply.
The Sidebar Deck can now be dragged as narrow as needed before
it will collapse to show just the deck TAB Bar
My problem now is that the minimumwidth setting keeps (randomly, as
far as I can tell) reverting to "true," and I have to go in again
and reset it to false.
So does anyone know why that would happen, how I can get it to stay
at "false"? It's not like I re-installed or even updated LO when it
happens. I've got LO 7.4.6.2, build
https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/gitweb?p=core.git;a=log;h=5b1f5509c2decdade7fda905e3e1429a67acd63d
running on Ubuntu 20.04 on Dell XPS 9315 using the Dell image that
came with the computer.

Sorry you're having issues. But can not confirm, the value [false |
true (default)] set for 'minimumwidth' is retained in profile with
7.6.2 build and current builds of master against 24.2.0 release.
When set the stanza in the registrymodifications.xcu registry setting
will be--
<item oor:path="/org.openoffice.Office.UI.Sidebar/General"><prop
oor:name="MinimumWidth" oor:op="fuse"><value>false</value></prop></item>
Only deleting that profile .xcu, or doing a profile reset (via UI)
should cause loss of the the value. Otherwise with profile intact--it
would require an intentional edit to toggle the setting back to 'false'.
If you actually see the value changing in an unexplained
fashion--pleasse file a ticket in the project Bugzilla.

When I search
/home/eric/.config/libreoffice/r/registrymodifications.xcu for
"UI.Sidebar/General" it is not found. I do find, e.g.,
UI.Sidebar/Content. (I had to search in Firefox. For some reason gedit
chokes when I try to do a search on this large file.)
When I check "Open Expert Configuration" in LO the value there has
changed to "true" again. It changed suddenly and, as far as I can
tell, entirely arbitrarily after behaving for several weeks.

20231016 update:
Follow-up: Out of curiosity I tried opening the
registrymodifications.xcu in Writer and there I did find the
MinimumWidth entry.
The next time the setting changes I'll look to see what happened in
registrymodifications.xcu
