Whenever you install Windows or upgrade, such as from Xp to Win7 the Windowsinstaller kindly 'fixes' the MBR to point at the Windows boot-loader(NTldr).

Windows backs up the existing boot sector and adds it to the boot menu viaboot.ini or BCD entry.
