Odd. I have: Version 3.6.0.4 (Build ID: 932b512) (linux .deb) and it
certainly still happens on all of my installations.

Not to worry... with 3.6 just go to Tools|Options|LibreOffice
Writer|Formatting Aids: and untick everything ticked under 'Display
of'... Now go back and turn on: View|Nonprinting Characters and you have
layout guides again!

Of course your blue header/footer line feature will still be available,
but you'll no longer be able to view:
- Paragraph end
- Custom hyphens
- Spaces
- Non-breaking spaces
- Tabs
- Breaks
- Hidden text
- Fields: Hidden text
- Fields: Hidden paragraphs
But hey, you'll be able to see page guides again (including column
guides). Cool huh?
My bug report was marked as a dupe of 46073 (twice actually). However I
