Doing the following made a day night difference for me in how fast
Change hosts setting in hosts file for LibreOffice:
Check computer name in terminal: just enter: hostname in the terminal
In terminal, do gksudo gedit /etc/hosts
Add line as shown below for add, for instance, 127.0.0.1 don localhost
4) and add a line so it looks like this:
127.0.0.1 galaxy localhost galaxy.(none)
6) now OpenOffice.org Writer and Calc open fast when the network
connection is attached.
For anyone new reading this. replace "galaxy" with whatever you have
named your computer.

Thanks to NoOp, now I know this is not a bug.
I hope that Openoffice.org/Libreoffice become a "lightweight" application
