Thank you very much! I did as you said. (I couldn't find that info
anywhere.) I am very happy with LO.

I have always used a .doc format, but I don't know what is best anymore.
I think that this may be root of your problems. DOC files are native for MS
Office. LibreOffice tries it's best to load and save them, but most of
time the
quality is at least questionable.
Try using LO native format, that is ODT (for text files). It's as simple as
choosing File → Save as → choosing "ODF Text Document (.odt)" from
drop-down
list below form for file name.
I keep all my LO files in ODT. If I have to send them for someone to read,
then
I export them as PDF (File → Export as PDF, or icon on toolbar). If I have
to
send them for someone who should be able to modify them, then I save them
as
DOC (except rare cases when I know that receiver is using LO/OOo, in which
case I send ODT). Although I have to edit these files when I get them back,
because they tend to look quite different.
If you would like to save files in ODT by default (what I encourage to do),
try:
Tools → Options → Load/Save → General → Always save as → choose "ODF Text
Document" from drop-down list.
