Great.  That narrows things down a bit.

Can you open the ppt and save as an odp but add the word "conversion" into the 
file-name?  Then open the old odp and re-save but add the word "resave" to the 
file-name.  Close LibreOffice and double-click the "resave" one.  Does it open 
or does LibreOffice need to be open already in order to open it?  


Lets ignore PowerPoint, i was only asking about it because i was muddled by your 
initial question.

That was interesting to hear about 64bit Windows and Win7.  I prefer Ubuntu.  It 
is good that we have choices.

Thanks for your reply.    I was should have made it clear I was using 
Linux 64 (Mint)  and Libreoffice64

If I open the directory and double click on the ppt file it opens 
straight away.

If I open the directory and double click on the odp file it crashes.

If I open Libreoffice and open the odp file from within Libreoffice it 
runs straight away.

The I do not remember if the file was created in PowerPoint  (Probably was)
The PowerPoint opens and runs the ppt   file.

As I said earlier I should have said I was running Linux Mint 64.

The 32 bit software runs on 64 bit machines.
It is it a bit pointless running 32bit software running on a 64bit machine.
If I wanted to run 32bit software I would run a 32 bit machine.
I want the speed advantage.  Windows 64 has been unstable until Windows 7,
but Linux 64 has been stable for a long time.

Previous versions of OpenOffice Impress 64 have not had this problem
