Would you rather it be hidden deep on the hard drive somewhere that you can
not find it to delete it? Where would you suggest that it be placed?
The desktop shortcut is pretty standard, and can be avoided with a checkbox,
but the installation folder, where the installer inflate itself to really
install the app could be located in the temp folder, and deleted after
installation; at least on windows it's the most usual way to install
software, instead of dropping the installer on the desktop.
