Thanks for the discussion on this. I am tagging and will get back to working out a process for it once things quiet down a bit in a week or so.

Cheers,

Marc

With the looming release of LibreOffice v.4.0, I would like to start a
project coordinating members of the TDF/LibreOffice membership marketing
team to approach through email or personal visit to local Libraries and
see if they would consider buying copies of the LibreOffice
documentation books for their shelves.

We would coordinate form letters here as a team (everyone involved in
this process) and then use these "as is" or "modified" in their native
language.

We would also track the Libraries that were contacted on an online
spreadsheet and later follow-up with letters informing them regularly of
any updated documentation from our docs team.

The book purchases would be done from Lulu who have a good distribution
channel all over the world and their copies are of good quality. (Yes, I
have already bought a LibreOffice book from them.)

We would also see if any members/users would like to participate in
offering a donation to purchase a copy of the "Getting Started with
LibreOffice" Guide if a local Library would agree to such an arrangement.

This project would then be listed on the "Easy Task" list for any new
marketing team newcomer. She/He could see if any of the local libraries
had copies of the "Getting Started with LibreOffice" Guide and then
report back to our team so that we could contact them about this.

The idea is to get our documentation into as many libraries as possible
and to keep in contact with these libraries in order to inform them of
any new docs by our teams.

I will take care of posting a spreadsheet that will keep track of the
libraries by geographic location worldwide as well as the LibreOffice
Guides on their shelves.

Note: Libraries usually have a "wishlist" of book requests that they put
out for their users. We can make sure that our docs show on these lists.
Once they order/receive these guides, it is up to us to promote them
locally to friends etc. and to even borrow these books from time to time
so that their library usage show that they are indeed being used.

How does this sound?

Marc
