Hi,
FYI, I just created an EasyHack for the website with the topic "Ask users to
contribute while they are running their download".

This had already been discussed a couple of years ago, I can't seem to
find the thread. The reason for not doing this was that we were trying
to stay away from the OOo installation routine where people were asked
if they would like to create an OOo account. People thought it was too
invasive.
I, myself, for marketing purposes, think it would be a great idea, and,
yes, it is invasive, but I think people are used to seeing these
messages. I am not sure if I would like it at the point of download as
at the download process, the user has not shown a commitment to use the
software. I would prefer this in the installation routine where the
commitment level is higher; it could just be one more step in the
installation process (last step).
If we are to ask multiple questions, we should not ask more than 3
questions. Anything more than 3 gets to be too much for people to
handle, I have seen this proven in classrooms over and over again in the
last 18 years of teaching at either elementary school level or at
university summer courses where I taught.
This should really be put up for discussion on the "Discussion list" to
see if people have changed their minds from 2 years ago when we left the
OOo project.
Good suggestions though.
Cheers,
Marc
