Hello alll,

I think we have to be a bit careful here. First of all, we're very
grateful for ubuntu to ship LibO and it is obvious that we will have
the stable 3.3 ready for the next Ubuntu release. So it's not so much
about what we could do to align ourselves with Ubuntu than the proper
timeframe for integration. What's more, however, is that as you may
have noticed, we are / will be shipped on many others, if not all Linux
distributions, if not in 2010, then in 2011. Our developers' community
is also made of OpenSuse, RedHat/Fedora, and Debian developers, to
mention the most famous (I hear Gentoo folks are also around). We thus
have to think about whether a distro-specific marketing would be
welcome. After all, OpenSuse, Fedora, Debian, only to mention these
three, are quite popular as well, and in terms of userbase, OpenSuse +
Fedora is probably comparable if not superior to Ubuntu.

Hi, :-)

FYI, I noticed that when I did a clean installation of the Ubuntu
10.10 beta, it was no longer installing a vast range of software by
default. In times past, popular titles like Gimp, OpenOffice, etc.
got installed by default. Now Ubuntu seems to be placing a lot of
emphasis on its Ubuntu Software Center, where you can choose from
and do one-click installations of a large number of FOSS titles.

So I suspect LibO might be there available in the list available
alongside OOo, but not more than that. I guess you might possibly be
in for a disappointment... unless this is just a policy with the
beta releases?

Ubuntu 10.10 ships with [1]. LibreOffice may replace it
if it's stable/ready enough in 11.04 [2]. I think it's fair to say
that these are the facts... I'm not sure about beta releases though.
Of course, both LibreOffice and will be accessible
through the software centre.
