This is easily solvable (and not sure whether you can call it "leaking"
It's definitely using more than was expected (more than 8GB of
po-files on disk, and almost 4GB of mysql database)
But if people would have told beforehand that the values on the
dedicated pootle server are not representative ( <3GB for www-dir/pos
and < 1GB of mysqldb), then appropriate disk-space could have been
assigned beforehand.
I'm currently moving stuff pootle over to an additional virtual disk though...
