Apparently other people don't build on windows in /opt ;-) but - I'd
like to fix this; I pushed this to at least give a more helpful warning

We consistently instructed Windows builders since several years to build
in something that they accessed by /cygdrive/.... Building in cygwin
virtual paths is a sure way to doom.

Ah - ok :-) thanks for that. Clearly I missed the memo. Having said
that - I also thought that it was necessary to keep the path as short as
humanly possible to avoid other fixed-sized command-line / buffer limit
issues as well :-) Such that:

        /cygdrive/c/cygwin/opt/lo/core

starts to be a bit long too ? :-)

Seriously! You might find many more hideous problems and waste more
of your precious time.

If this is the case, should we not check & enforce that inside
configure.ac for windows ? also - it worked for me until rather
recently, so I've no idea what changed :-)

Re-testing running configure from the above path.

        Thanks !
