Hi,

System installed LibreOffice versions can use older American English
dictionaries. On Ubuntu, the system-wide en_US Hunspell dictionary
doesn't include the word “Obama”:

$ grep Obama /usr/share/hunspell/en_US*
$

But the system installed LibreOffice uses different (the newest)
American English dictionary on Ubuntu, so it works well (under my
system).

Other options: There is/was a bug with the configuration/usage of the
British and American hyphenation patterns, maybe this is a similar
configuration problem of the spelling dictionaries on your
system-installed LibreOffice. Please, check the language of the
document, and the following words in Writer in your LibreOffice
installation: color/colour to detect the British dictionary usage in
American English documents.
Check your private dictionaries for exceptions, too. (see Help <F1>,
Index: exceptions;user-defined dictionaries).

Best regards,
László

Hi All,

The word “Obama” is included in the American and Canadian English
dictionaries:

$ grep Obama ~/libo/clone/dictionaries/en/en_*dic
/home/laci/libo/clone/dictionaries/en/en_CA.dic:Obama/3
/home/laci/libo/clone/dictionaries/en/en_US.dic:Obama/3

Change the document language to English (USA) or English (Canada) in
Options » Language Settings » Languages » Western to solve the
reported problem. Thanks for your bug report, we will extend the
British English dictionary – English (UK) – in the near future, too.

 Is this a new addition as I live in the USA and I am already set to English
(USA). I never change this setting so it makes me wonder why the underline
still :-/ The user who originally posted the bug to the thread also, from my
understanding, has English (USA) setting.

Joel
