That's exactly the idea and was described in 
https://design.blog.documentfoundation.org/2016/11/11/additions-to-libreoffice/
Right now we have extensions for shapes and palettes. The latter will be introduced with 5.3. Both 
install the objects into the collection, which is the gallery or the list of color palettes.
