Well, it seems to me that the action item I had from May was to explore
how much work (or of a hassle) this would be.
From Florian's responses I would say - a good bit.
That and given the fact there really does not seem to be consensus on
this at the moment I propose we table the idea till the next meeting.
Right now there are other more pressing uses of our time and energies,
IMO.
it requires a few hours of time for me, but that wouldn't be the
problem. I am just curious to hear the reasons.
Rght - well..
I was not the one that requested, or put the suggestion forward, during
the meeting. Honestly I'm good with the us mnemonic but others felt that
northamerica was more appropriate. I do remember the discussion on the
international lists before this mailing list was created. But since then
a group has started to form here and within this group it seems a
somewhat different thought is forming.
Also - there is no request at this point for the change - the only thing
that came of that meeting as an action item for me to check on the
difficulty of making such a change. From my POV that is now fulfilled
and the results have been, obviously, reported back to the group.
I think also that there is not yet a consensus one way or the other for
requesting such a change. This would IMO take a bit more thought. IF we
get to a consensus for a change then a request would be made.
Personally I think there is value in continuity, meaning that there
should be always some resistance to doing things that cause churning.
Every decision involves trade-offs and it does no one any good if we
make decisions only to keep coming back to them anew.
Anyway - I'm waxing a bit now, so good time to stop this email.
Not sure if that helps you any in understanding, hope so,
