It looks like it will split community efforts but in the end we will
reach a larger usabase.

Consider the following situation, which IMHO, will likely happen:
Brazilian(*) users will first access the Brazilian askbot. If a
solution/answer is not available there, he will try somehow to get the
english answer... But as rule of thumb,  his first attempt will be in
his native language.

It will also likely happen that a EN answer get translated to PT by a
volunteer, or even referenced as answer to a PT question.

Most of the PT volunteers will help in the PT askbot. Nevertheless I
believe there will be some 2-way assistance, if an EN question has a PT
anwswer. At large this is where it will grow.

With respect to sharing karmas, I doubt this is a most-wanted feature,
but I'm biased because I don't use it.

(*) Angolans, Mozabicans and even Portugueses
