thanks for that, this is indeed a great idea we should consider! It even 
could work with the current PayPal setup, as PayPal seems to support 
"subscriptions", i.e. recurring payments/donations.

Basically, we're a bit short on merchandise. It's not easy to produce 
and have it available in many countries. It's a topic that's being 
worked on for quite a while, but still no real outcome. It might make 
sense to have "exclusive" member/donor merchandise, to make donations 
more attractive.

I am rather against those "nags". Donations should be voluntarily. 
Informing people is allright, but imagine someone installing LibreOffice 
on 3 PCs in his home, and then getting this nag three times - this most 
likely won't make him donate. :)

We looked into that, and while it might be possible to set this up, it 
usually has a bad connotation ("phone sex", to be honest). Lots of 
strange corporations offer some kind of vanity numbers via phone, so it 
is rather negative, at least here in Europe.

Absolutely. We plan a dedicated fundraising campaign soon. :-) If you 
are interested to contribute, the marketing mailing list is the right 
plcae to look at.
