that's the question I am not sure of. We have a total of four available VMs, that we mainly need for development and evaluating new tools. More VMs require more IPs, and more hardware, which costs money.

So, I am very much in favor of running a test inside a VM, but then move the productive instance to a non-VM machine.

Or otherwise said: It needs a compelling reason to productively run on a VM. Again, for testing, a VM is no problem - that's what they are there for exactly. :)
