Hi Philip,
Interesting. I've been using LO for years on Linux, Windows and Mac and I never noticed that the export to docx had disappeared.
Seems to be a problem with the dialog for saving files in Windows. There isn't shown the file extension. So might be 
Tools → Options → LibreOffice → General → Use LibreOffice Open/Save dialogs
will help here.
