Like the OP, I prefer a Serif font. I updated the untitled template to
default to Georgia 12 pt in LibreOffice Writer on both my Linux laptop and
my Windows 10 computers
For Windows the Georgia font is a free download from the Microsoft store.
For Ubuntu and its derivatives such as Linux Mint, the Georgia font is
included in the optional Microsoft TrueType fonts package which can be
installed by running
sudo apt-get install msttcorefonts in a terminal window

Hi,
I'm using "Noto Serif" in LibreOffice Writer. But, it looks a bit
crowded. I prefer "Times Roman" style. So, I tried other Serif fonts,
but not really satisfied.
What font are you using that resembles Times Roman?
