Is it possible to go directly to a form without navigating through
menus etc.?
I.e. once I have designed a form I want to use it directly as a
desktop application, is this possible?
Yes, after a fashion, and I'm not sure that it works with an embedded
database. Using a server backend on the other hand, does still work, if
you save the form you have defined as a copy (File > Save a copy...),
and save it somewhere where you can later load it directly into
LibreOffice, e.g. by double-clicking on it.
With this approach, before being able to use it, you will still need to
bind the form to the correct datasource (ODB file) and the query that
was initially used to populate the content of the form. This is done by
loading the saved copy of the form in LibreOffice, and switching to form
design mode, then configuring the relevant properties in the Form
Navigator, then closing form design mode, and then saving the form.
On next load of the form into LibreOffice, you will be asked to provide
any user ID and password associated with an authorized user on the db
server, the ODB will be loaded in the background (setting the database
context), and you should be able to see and edit your data, create new
entries etc. The problem is that if you have multiple forms for
different types of data entry, there is then no real advantage to just
simply loading the ODB file and navigating to the various forms from
within the Base container, as otherwise you will have to load each form
separately, or use macro magic to switch between various forms.
The real answer is that LO Base isn't like MS Access used to be (back in
the day) with an executable app-like behaviour, and getting it to behave
even remotely closely requires a great deal of effort, and often, a fair
dose of frustration.
