Those who have not yet given up on using LibreOffice Writer as a
multi-lingual word processing application may be interested in the bug
report 92655 (https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=92655) I
filed today.
It includes a listing of 10 bugs, at least 7 annoying and unhelpful
behaviors, and some enhancement requests related to using different
languages and scripts. This is, of course, a flagrant violation of the "one
bug-one report" rule, but I felt that, since a few related bugs have been
reported in the past with no action, it might be more appropriate to provide
a view of the forest rather than any individual trees.
There are two pdf documents attached to the report. The first is a very
detailed demonstration of each of the bugs as well as instructions for how
to reproduce each of them - even for those who have no knowledge of some of
the languages used to demonstrate specific quirks. The second document gives
an overview of what are considered "complex text" attributes, and why even
that term reflects some misunderstandings and possibly some underlying
structural problems.
The documents have been provided in pdf rather than odt form since, although
they were generated with Writer (accompanied all the while with screaming)
it is not very likely that they will even be legible on any system not set
up exactly the same as mine. My wish is to settle on a single word processor
for all my writing needs and, although it is obviously possible to create
what you see in the documents attached to the bug reports, it is beyond
tedious, and I still find myself reaching for other applications in too many
circumstances.
Hopefully others with an interest in having non-western word processing
better supported by LibreOffice Writer will chime in with comments and
suggestions, or at least indicate support for some attention in this area.
