Hi :)
I kinda assumed there would be some lag added due to processing at each end and up there.  Also 
bandwidth issues and perhaps that the satellites and supporting systems might prioritise military, 
government, corporate and scientific data-flow above house calls.

I doubt it's that photons have gotten lazy over the years!  Lol
