Hi :)
WoooHooo!! :)) Congrats on fixing it. Hopefully you can continue collaborating because LO and AOO
(or the older OOo) are kinda just different versions of the same program. LO has a lot more
features and is a lot more streamlined and advanced but still fairly similar.
You can have both AOO and LO if you kinda subvert this guide a little

Congrats and regards from
Tom :)

Hello,
Thanks to all who tried to help, my problem has finally been solved!
I also had OpenOffice installed (because I am collaborating with someone
who uses it) and the OO quickstarter was obviously interfering, so thanks,
Tom, for the tip.

Note that the message I am getting refers to LO 3.5 Quickstarter,

still got the same message and failure.
I am at a loss.
Try using RevoUninstaller as suggested by Tom. I believe there is a free
version to remove the leftovers from the Windows uninstall. I understand
Windows sometimes leaves stuff behind when using the MS supplied
uninstaller. (I use Linux so I normally do not deal with Windows
specific issues).
The message refers to the Quickstarter, which means there is actually a
*running* *process*, so it has nothing to do with straggling leftover files
on the filesystem...
Brian - have you checked your running processes? Are you doing this from
an Admin account?
CTRL-SHIFT-ESC (brings up the task manager on all versions of windows)
Be sure you are on the 'Processes' tab - look for *any* soffice.exe or
soffice.bin processes... if you don't see any, be sure the 'Show processes
from all users' is checked (bottom left of task manager window)
If you see any, kill them, then run the installer again and it will work.
If you *don't*, then I imagine something is hosed, or you are not doing
this from an Admin account.
