Hi :)
I am not sure what antivirus Frank uses but i do remember him mentioning that he had solved the
problem on his machine.  I'm not sure how he solved it.  He doesn't have an
on-all-the-time-broadband connection and doesn't have much time to stop and chat when he is
connected but he did say a big thanks to everyone that had posted helpful answers.

I'm not sure if his message reached the list or if i was meant to forwards it to the list.  Anyway,
a big thanks to all for solving it :)
Regards from
Tom :)

I've have multiple versions of OpenOffice.org and LibreOffice installed
together on two WinXP Pro SP3's - both with Avast! AV running & I've not
run into the issue. So hopefully I can compare with those & help.

Can you please verify that you have Administrative rights on the WinXP
machine at work? See:
https://www.libreoffice.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=36677#c1

If you are comfortable in opening the Windows Registry editor, can you
please do the following and let us know the result?

1. Start|Run|regedit
2. Click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ and scroll down to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/LibreOffice - click and see if you have this
entry 'QuickStarterInstalled' and Data value of '1'.
3. It is possible that an admin previously had tried to perform a silent
install and failed, so also please check to see if you have an entry for
Openoffice.org at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/
(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/OpenOffice.org). If so, please click on
that and see if you have the QuickStarterInstalled entry and Data value
of '1' as well.

Don't do anything in the registry (yet), just report back on what you've
found. Thanks.

If I remember correctly, here was some advice on installing either
LO or OOo on Windows:
1.) Physically disconnect from the Internet(shut down access to modem).
2.) Log in an Administrator account.
3.) Shut down anti-virus program.
4.) Install LO or OOo.
5.) Start your anti-virus program.
6.) Log in as user
7.) Connect to the Internet again.
I don't know if this would solve some of the problems, but the
remarks of one person having problems that an anti-virus program was
running.

Yes. It was manderson:

"Grasping at straws. I use Avira Free at home and Avast Free at work. Frank,
what do you use?"

That is why I mentioned that I have Avast AV installed and working on
both of those machines (they are running in VMWare VM's).
