I'm looking to achieve a certain layout effect in LibreOffice writer, but
it's a bit hard to describe. I can demonstrate it in HTML:

left of the body of text for which it is the heading. The text should be
indented and not flow around underneath the heading. All such headings
should have the same amount of horizontal space available, and should wrap
if they exceed this.

It would be possible to do this with one giant table for the whole
document, with headings in the left column, text in the right, and top
level headings or un-headed text in single-column rows; or with text boxes
and certain wrap settings. But I want to know if I can do it purely using
styles. Otherwise, should I want to change things in the future, I'll have
a lot more editing to do, and using styles seem to be LibreOffice's main
strength rather than the horrible typesetting hackery so characteristic of
a certain other office suite.

I've been playing around with paragraph styles, but I can't figure out how
to do this. Is it at all possible?

(I'm using LO Writer 3.4.5 under Ubuntu 11.10, by the way.)

Cheers,
Jason

Would using sections be what you need? The LO Writer Guide contains
about 10 pages on using sections that begins around page 136.
