By "outside of the document", Łukasz means "on the margins". In MS Word 2007
and newer you can place text in the header/footer that is on the margin.
Honestly, I can't decide if this is great idea or just stupid.
Anyway, there has been some changes about headers and footers in LO 3.5:
<http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/3.5#Writer>. Not sure if this
resolves Łukasz's issue, since I use only stable releases. There are binary
for beta2 available and, according to release plan, rc1 should be released in
next seven days.
