Yes - video and image are two very different things.
Replace the photo by a video and apply the same transitions and nothing has
any effect, it won't fade (in or out) just sits there showing the first
frame of the video until you start it, then shows the last frame after the
video finishes.
I'm not sure whether to regard this as a misfeature or a flat-out bug in the
media-player.
I misunderstood you question from the other day, perhaps.
Well, to state it simply, custom animations are not implemented for
video content - the only exception is start, end and toggle play.
