Hi :) The 6u21 is the best version. After that Oracle started making
java increasingly incompatible. The _22 is still quite good, about
as good as the _20. I think _23 works but _24 starts being a bit of
trouble. I don't know if there has been a serious study on this but
a few people have tested a few versions of java on a few different
OSes but it would take a lot of hunting through the archives to
gather the data. Regards from Tom :)
In your opinion.
Further, I fail to see what that has to do with LO not starting with
Java 7 installed.
I've no issues with Sun Java 6.26 (linux) or 6.29 (Windows). There may
be issues with Base with later version, but if you are going to post
these, then point to bug report so that OP can judge for himself. I
pointed the OP to a bug report related to Java 7 which maybe related to
his issue. At least it is someplace to start & is based on valid data
rather than generalities.
IOW if you are going to make these statements, then provide links/bug
reports et al to back it up. You may be correct, but it does no good to
make them otherwise.

Hi again
Got LO to work.... took Pedro's idea and re-installed Java 6
beside version 7. LO looked for 6 and started up promptly and seems
so far to be running well.
With this in mind I and the experience I have had with LO failing
with just Java 7 installed I would be prone to say that LO version
3.4.x is not ready or is not fully compatible with version 7 of
Java. IME keep Java 6 installed for LO compatibility
.... See: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39659 [Java
1.7.0 not recognised] and http://java.com/en/download/faq/java7.xml
You might want to comment regarding the startup failure on 39659. IMO
LO should not fail the startup regardless of java version (or no java
at all).
