Has anyone noticed this?
I have two machines - both Toshiba, one a Satellite L40 with duo core twin processors @ 1.6 GHz running Windows 7 SP1, the other a Netbook NB100 with one processor @ 1.6 GHz running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.
Both machines have 2GB RAM.
Both machines running LO 3.4.3, with the memory option in both instances set at 132 MB for LO and 32 MB per object. Quickstarter is NOT enabled on either.
Observed results:
                                                                                     Windows 7
                             Ubuntu
Opening blank Calc document from Calc icon: 13 secs 7 secs

Opening an identical Calc document 30 secs 18 secs
(by double-clicking the document)
If I open the xlsx version of this file in Excel 2007, the time is 5 secs - given that Excel loads a bit into the OS on startup and even though the xlsx file is 20% larger than the ods file. Is this a problem with the compiling of the Windows version, or is this a cynical ploy by MS to ensure that people choose MS Office over third-party office suites? Anyone had any such experience with other Office suites?
