Well someone needs to do this for those who cannot.
I am on the Board of Directors for a Kiwanis organization dedicated to
Adults with Disabilities - Aktion Club [aktionclub-elmira.org for local
one]. Most of them are developmentally disables and live in group homes.
Every member must be an adult with a disability. That is one way I
volunteer locally.
Finding these old computers and giving then new homes, is another way of
volunteering. It is hard to find ones that either work or can be cheaply
made to work, with monitors the hardest to find. But for those who do not
have a computer, any old slow working computer, that can do basic office
work and access email and web pages through free dial-up access, is worth
while to them.
Having my computer do volunteering with distributed computing projects is a
third way for my to volunteer, one that does not stress my back and neck
injuries, plus it is done 24/7/356 in the background without much
maintenance/input on my part except for choosing which projects to work with
and how much CPU time I allow the system to use. I am now in the top 1%
worldwide for this computer-volunteering.

Hi :)
I think quite a few people do a lot to help others but you really take it
to an
extreme. It is good to see and hear about projects like this
occasionally.

Tom :)

Subject: [libreoffice-users] working on a CD distribution disc for LO
With working on the old P-III system, I decided to make a simple stripped
down
CD distribution/install disc for LibreOffice. It is not browser based
like the
original NA-DVD, but these old CD only systems would be quicker to not to
use a
web browser to deal with the install files.
This way, those who do not have a DVD drive and do not have broadband
access,
will be able to install LibreOffice.
I have included 3.3.x and 3.4.x Windows installs, the JRE, the
documentation
folder, and some basic dictionaries.
I added a PDF printout of the LO web site Windows installation info and a
Read-Me-First document that tell the person to install the JRE first
[since you
get an install error freezing the install till JRE is installed].
Right now it is 697 MB. K3B states that I have 5.5MB free space on a CD,
so the
CD is as full as it gets.
I could have more space if I choose either 3.3.x or 3.4.x versions, but I
wanted
the users to have that option.
