Hi Steffen,

Apparently, OTF support was under development in OOo because it wasn't
supported :

http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Font-FAQ#What_workarounds_are_there_for_using_OpenType_.22.OTF.22_fonts_on_OpenOffice.org_2

However, it appears that the child workspace used for the development of
the corresponding functionality, and which appeared briefly in developer
release pre OOo 3.2, never made it pas QA assessment because it was
targeted to the wrong release version. From what I can understand of the
release process, the code allowing display, printing and PDF export of
OTF fonts was then supposed to be pushed back to either OOo 3.3 or OOo 3.4.

The above might explain why it is not in the master source code
repository of LibreOffice and thus not in the current builds (but I am
uncertain whether this is actually the case). I have asked in the issue
whether the code finally got integrated or not. If it did, then the lack
of OTF recognition in LibreOffice would be a bug in our code base.
