Reading through the mailing list there are a dozen or two people that have
been very active and came over almost from the announcement of the
foundation, none of these people are coders but there contributions have
been very good.
We have accomplished something that we could not do in years with OOo, in
just a few days, and that is get a better organized presence in North
America, but that seems to have stagnated at this point also, maybe that
just my view, and maybe now it is going to take getting 3.3 out before we
see anymore real growth.
I will end this now, as I feel like I am rambling.
In appearance it may look like it has stagnated, but in N. America (I am
new to all of this) it looks like we are really starting with pretty well, a
bar bones infrastructure. The few of us then have to bear the weight of this
and work at making it better. If we want more members in N.America, then it
is up to us to get them.
The news of LibreOffice and the TDF has gone out, for the people for whom
are in the loop of opensource software news, they have made their choice and
made the move. You will probably find that after these few weeks that the
amount of membership joining the LibO has pretty well slowed to a trickle.
Now it's a matter of getting the brand out into the news arena and making
sure that the regular OOo user, who does not keep in touch with OOS news
reports, is made aware of the choice and of the convincing arguments as to
why they should switch from OOo to LibreOffice. We are now in competition
with the Oracle OOo suite.
My real point is, we cannot afford to stagnate, and cannot take 3-4 months
to really get the foundation set up, it needs to happen soon, or we will

place, including the by-laws of the foundation. If you was presented with
the choice of LibreOffice, and OOo right now, after doing a little research
which way would you honestly go as a user? If the foundation was
established and the by-laws posted and membership more than just a couple
dozen it would help. Right now there is not even a Help section on
the main website. even if that page only pointed to the users mailing list
it would be better than nothing.
I am not trying to really criticize what has been accomplished, but there
are a few areas that really need to be done now. One of those is there
needs to be a tab at the top of the website that says Help or support and it
should not take weeks to get it.
I have seen what you have done with the Wiki, it did not take you weeks to
put all that info up there, and that is a lot information.
