Hi,

Is it possible out of all the strings for tranaslation
for someone to go through them and see if there is a
better word that one might be swappable with?

There are tools for that; offline you have various PO-editors with translation memories (TM) e.g. Lokalize, POEdit, Virtaal and more.

Online there are various services; for this particular action you may check Open-Tran; there's a Maltese vocabulary lookup (bil-Malti=mt):

Open-Tran parses translations done in many open-source projects.

Best regards,

[libreoffice-l10n] Maltese Translations

Like I said, the words should be relevant. And you
probably want suggestions for words, not sentences or
messages, because it's unlikely that the app would
contain lots of occurrences of the same sentence.

So I'm not sure what .po file you would base your
compendium on. :)

I just open the .po in Notepad++ and then copy and
paste the lot into LO and skim for typos. A bit low
tech but it's reasonably quick and easy :)

Well, basically, we need an English-Maltese
dictionary, containing relevant terms only (because
the more irrelevant words it contains, the less
useful become the suggestions).

In fact, Pootle can generate such dictionary for you,
but it needs existing translations to do that. There
are also other tools, but they need input as well. If
you have say KDE or Gnome or something else localized
into Maltese, and you intend to use same terminology
as that project (or these projects), that could be
used as a basis for your compendium. Or you can start
from scratch and create the dictionary manually. This
path would require most of effort from you, but the
final product would be of best quality.
