Of course if your regular user is clean.. you can use it..
Alternatively one can do like I do on my everyday machine: have a
clean default profile and only bring in the macport cruft as needed in
individual sessions, never seesion I use to do lo work.
In the end people tend to ignore that advice, then discover the exotic
and diverse failure mode, and then whine on IRC about the mac build
being 'broken'
